With almost 20,000 inhabitants, Birkirkara is the largest community in Malta. In the old town stands the Baroque Church St. Helena. Inside you can find baroque frescoes and the bell is supposed to be the largest on the island. The facade, which is slightly raised on a wide platform, is modelled in the first two floors after the strict built Cathedral in Mdina, but the pediment is built in baroque style.
