The park has been built by the Knights of Saint John in 1570 as a hunting ground for the Grand Master. In the summer, it is pleasantly cool and in winter the oranges prosper. The Buskett Gardens are open the whole year, but in winter it is a favourite spot for illegal bird hunters. On the weekend before June 29 the Maltese celebrate the Mnarja Lights Festival at the Buskett Gardens.
