Cafes in Malta

In Malta you will realise soon that the colourful goings in the street cafes is an important social aspect of the island life. To sit in one of the cafes, overlooking the sea, to drink a cappuccino and enjoy this delicious spicy "Pastizzi”, to talk with friends or to observe the people passing the cafe, it is a pleasant pastime.

 Valletta
The colourful bustle in the street cafes under colourful umbrellas range up to the bigger places of Valletta, where you find also housewives and business people. They all enjoy a break and take the opportunity to observe other people or to chat.

 Sliema
There are countless good street cafes in this region, with a view of the small bay of Sliema and further up along the Tower Road with a view to the sea. These shops are specialised usually on Italian cakes and pastries, Maltese Pastizzi, local sandwiches and light pasta dishes and salads. On hot days, you should costs the local cooled white wine.

 St. Paul's Bay, Marsascala, Marsaxlokk
The fishing villages in the St. Paul's Bay, Marsascala, Marsaxlokk and Mgarr Gozo are all quiet places to life the experience in the street cafes. They are located in residential areas, where are many good restaurants. The cafes here are simple and genuine. In Marsaxlokk is a daily open-air market and will continue along the coast. Small cafes offer snacks and lunch. In this way you can enjoy the time in this peaceful part of the island for a few hours.

 Mdina
The famous citadel of Mdina is perhaps one of the most popular places for people who like to combine a cultural trip with a delicious afternoon tea or coffee. After a tour through the narrow streets and visiting the museums and the cathedral it is nice to have a cafe in the bastions of Mdina. From this vantage point, you have a  overwhelming view of almost the whole island and you can enjoy a rich selection of home-made cakes.

 Mgarr (Gozo)
Another excellent Tea Room can be found on the outskirts of the village of Mgarr, in an old tower. Visitors who walk into this beautiful landscape, should park their cars nearby and walk down to Gnejna Bay. The path leads through fields, where is especially beautiful in spring with its floridness yellow flowers. The way back up to the hill is all the most attractive if you have the prospect of a good cup of tea or coffee.
