Malta is a member of the European Union, nationals of other EU countries (Germany, Austria, etc.) require no visa entry. A valid passport or ID card is required to prove of identity.
Others, who would like to stay more than three months in Malta, have to contact the Immigration Police. Holidaymakers with a Turkish passport and many travelers of other nationalities require a visa (more information is available on the website of the Maltese Government).
On 21 December 2007, Malta joined besides Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, the Schengen Agreement. This agreement allows EU citizens to travel without passport controls to the Member States of the European Union.
