Paola, a modern town counts more than 12,000 inhabitants. The nowadays one city originally consisted of the settlements Tarxia and Fgura. The town, founded by the grand master Antoine de Paule impresses with grand streets and houses with traditional balconies.
On the left side of the street from the church square in Paola to Santa Lucia, you will find the famous subterranean cave grave Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni. As the facility already suffered greatly due to visitor masses it was restored with modern technique. There are 8 guided tours daily for groups of 10. The tickets have to be purchased in the museum in advance. Note, there is a waiting time of up to a week you should save a ticket right after your arrival on Malta.
