There are two types of taxis in Malta. The black taxis which are operated by cab companies and the white taxis where the driver is usually the owner of the taxi. The black taxis are generally cheaper as the white taxis, where you have to deal the price before departure.
An other way is to ride in a Karrozin, a horse and carriage. These are available around the Palace Square in Valletta and Mdina at Saqqajja. This drivers are often be good guides, but you have also to deal the price before departure. Otherwise it may be very expensive.
