Zurrieg

Zurrieg is one of the oldest parish communities in Malta. The city, founded in 1436, is now grown together with the surrounding communities Bubaqra, Nigret and Safi. The Landmark of the town is the parish church  St. Catherine, which contains many works of the Baroque painter Mattia Preti. On the outskirts, in the direction of Hal Far you can see the restored windmill Ta 'Xarolla, from the time of the Johanniter.

The Blue Grotto, about 3 km in the south of Zurrieg is one of the most popular destinations for excursions in Malta. At the entrance of the about 25 m high grotto, the deep blue colour of the water, which gives the name "Blue Grotto", shines towards the boats.
